In my early twenties, I had two knee surgeries. After the second one, my doctor told me to get a desk job. At the time, I was working on excavation and sitework while training full-time, and I didn’t accept that as the answer. I didn’t need to stop. I needed to learn a better way to train and recover.

That decision changed the direction of my life. I left the excavation field and pursued coaching full-time. I started running strength and conditioning for my own Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team — and the results were hard to ignore. Athletes were recovering faster, winning more, and competing at a level they hadn’t reached before. That drove a thirst for knowledge that hasn’t slowed down since.

The more I understood, the better my athletes performed. So I went back to school and earned my Master of Science in Exercise Science with a focus on Rehabilitative Sciences. Early clients believed in what I was building enough to invest in it — and that support made opening the first gym possible. I signed the lease, built it out, and kept going.

VPT grew one client at a time. I taught sports programming and evaluation at a local community college. I earned my Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist credential. I kept refining the process with every person who walked through the door. Each client made the approach better.

Over 1,000 clients later, nothing about the foundation has changed. Start with a real assessment. Build the program around the individual. Supervise every session. Let the data drive every decision. No guessing. No templates. Just purposeful work.
